How to measure your wrist

  • Use a measuring tape or a piece of string
  • Measure snugly around your wrist, just below the wrist bone
  • Read the measurement in centimeters or measure the length of the string

Which length is comfortable?

  • Snug fit: wrist circumference + 0.5 to 1 cm
  • Regular fit: wrist circumference + 1.5 to 2 cm
  • Loose fit: wrist circumference + 2.5 to 3 cm

Which length feels comfortable depends on your personal preference. Some people like to wear bracelets close-fitting, others prefer a looser fit. It can help to check the length of a bracelet you already like wearing.

Influence of materials

The materials used can affect how snug a bracelet feels. A bracelet with small beads will feel less tight than one with larger beads, even if the string length is the same.

For this reason, bracelet sizes are calculated using the inner length. This is leading for the bracelet size, regardless of the materials used.

Elastic, extension chain or sliding knot

  • Elastic bracelets adapt to your wrist and often feel slightly snug, but are easy to slip over your hand.
  • Bracelets with an extension chain offer more flexibility and are easier to adjust. With the extension chain, the bracelet can usually be worn up to 5 cm longer.
  • Bracelets with a sliding knot have a minimum and maximum inner length and can be worn at any length between those two sizes.

 

Necklace

Necklaces can fall differently depending on your neck, shoulders and personal preference. The length indicates roughly where the necklace will sit.

Guidelines for necklace lengths

  • 35–40 cm
    Short, high on the neck or around the collarbone
  • 45 cm
    Standard length, falls just below the collarbone
  • 50 cm
    Slightly longer, falls towards the chest
  • Longer than 50 cm
    Falls lower and has a looser look

Most necklaces include an extension chain, allowing you to adjust the length to your preference.
